A wireless communication survey is a survey used for the location of proposed or existing wireless communication towers. The specific needs of a client can vary, but surveys of this type are usually used to define the easements necessary for the operation of towers as well as determining the relationship between the existing or proposed tower and the location of the existing boundary lines or easements, nearby utilities and elevation information.
A licensed surveyor may be required to certify the accuracy of the tower location and elevation to a particular standard for the Federal Aviation Administration, either: 1A, ±20 feet (6 meters) horizontal, ±3 feet (1 meter) vertical, or 2C, ±50 feet (15 meters) horizontal, ±20 feet (6 meters) vertical.
